KENT- The Golden Flashes defense swarmed the RedHawks on Saturday but Miami prevailed 23-3 on Parents and Family weekend at Dix Stadium.
The Flashes harassed Miami's Brett Gabbert all afternoon long, recording four sacks and five tackles for loss from five different players. Kent State held Miami to 292 yards of offense, the second time this season the Flashes have held their opponent under 300 yards.
Mike Alaimo threw for 170 yards on Saturday including 110 to Chrishon McCray, a career high for the wide out. McCray had a 32-yard catch-and-run on the Flashes' opening drive that set up a 27-yard field goal for Andrew Glass, giving the Flashes a 3-0 lead. It would be the Flashes' biggest play of the game as both team's defense preventing explosive plays on Saturday. Gavin Garcia ran for a game high 54 yards for Kent State off 17 carries as the team combined for just over 100 total yards rushing.
The loss drops Kent State to 1-4 on the year and 0-1 in the MAC, Miami improves to 4-1 on the year and is 1-0 in conference play. Kent State embarks on a two-game road trip starting next week in Athens against the Ohio Bobcats. Kick-off is set for 3:30 p.m.
