KENT, Ohio — Kent State shot 50% and scored the most points in regulation against a Mid-American Conference opponent since Jan. 11, 2017 on Saturday afternoon at the M.A.C. Center in a 92-63 victory over Ohio.
The Golden Flashes (8-4, 2-0 MAC) pounded the ball inside for 42 points in the paint and shot 27-of-38 overall on two-point attempts.
Sophomore Corynne Hauser and redshirt senior Katie Shumate both recorded a double-double in the win. Hauser had a career-high 10 assists and scored all of her 16 points in the opening 20 minutes to help Kent State build a 14-point lead. Shumate added 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Flashes dominated early and led 9-0 less than three minutes into the contest. Ohio fought back and got within two with just over a minute to play in the first quarter before Hauser buried a three-pointer and graduate student Mikala Morris scored inside to make it 22-16 after 10 minutes.
A 12-0 run late in the second period extended the lead to 45-31 at halftime.
Junior Jenna Batsch took over offensively after the break, scoring 16 of her game-high 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting in the second half as the lead reached as many as 31 points. Morris finished with 13 points and freshman Mya Babbitt scored 10 off the bench.
Kent State has won four straight against the Bobcats and the 29-point margin-of-victory is the largest in the series since Feb. 23, 2005.
The Flashes will go back on the road as conference play continues Wednesday at Miami.
