ATHENS, Ohio – The Kent State field hockey team concluded the weekend with an afternoon road matchup against Ohio. An overtime goal by Eva Usoz clinched a 2-1 victory for the Flashes.

It was a match that picked up the pace as it went on, with both teams registering just one shot on target each in a scoreless first quarter. Much of the second quarter followed a similar script, with each team feeling each other out offensively. It appeared that the match was heading toward a 0-0 half until Agustina Florio found the opener with a buzzer-beating effort. The senior midfielder turned home a pass across goal by Maybritt Duwel to give the Flashes a 1-0 lead with under five seconds remaining in the first half, Florio's fifth goal of the season.

The Flashes turned up the heat in the second half, out-shooting the Bobcats 10-1 in the third and fourth quarters. Ohio did not waste their solo effort in the half, equalizing the match 1-1 seven minutes into the third quarter. Despite the Flashes' offensive advantage in the second half, they were unable to find a regulation winner and the match entered overtime knotted at one.

With the match in the balance in overtime, Eva Usoz took matters into her own hands. The sophomore midfielder sprinted the length of the field to catch up to Arden Goddard-Despot's pass from the Flashes' defensive half before firing home from an extremely improbable angle for her team-leading seventh goal of the season. The golden goal secured a 2-1 victory for the Flashes.

Kent State will return home to celebrate senior day in the final home match of the season on Friday, October 25 at 3 p.m.
