Conroyβs Brace Secures Senior Day Win for Flashes

KENT, Ohio β The Kent State field hockey team honored their five seniors ahead of Friday's final home match of the season against Bellarmine. The Flashes celebrated senior day in style, notching their third consecutive win with a 3-2 victory over the Knights.
After a scoreless first quarter in which each team registered one shot on goal, the Flashes gained momentum as the half wore on. Kent State accumulated four penalty corners in the second quarter, bringing their first-half total to six, through which they were ultimately able to find the match's opening goal. With less than five minutes remaining in the half, Maia Sarrabayrouse received a corner at the top of the circle, firing an effort toward goal which was deflected in by Lauren Conroy for her first goal of the season to give the Flashes a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
The Knights came out in the second half with greater attacking intent, tallying three shots on goal in the third quarter, which were all saved by goalkeeper Lieve Jansen. The Flashes were opportunistic in the third quarter, finding the back of the cage with their only shot of the period. In a similar corner play to the opening goal, Conroy deflected in an effort from Agustina Florio for her second goal of the match to give the Flashes a 2-0 advantage.
Following an early fourth-quarter goal by Bellarmine to cut the lead to 2-1, Eva Usoz responded immediately to restore a two-goal lead for Kent State. After receiving a pass from Arden Goddard-Despot, the reigning MAC Offensive Player of the Week fired across goal, beating the Knights' goalkeeper to establish a 3-1 lead with just over ten minutes remaining in the match. Despite a late goal from Bellarmine, the Flashes' defense was able to hold strong to secure the 3-2 senior day victory.
In what was the final home game for Florio, Goddard-Despot, Bella Carpenter, Elise Bearance, and Madison Leety, the Flashes officially clinched their spot in the MAC Tournament, which will be held in Oxford, Ohio on November 6-9.Β
Before tournament play, the Flashes will travel to Oxford next Friday, November 1, for the team's regular-season finale versus Miami.
