The Kent State field hockey team (6-10, 5-2 MAC) has their final regular season game on tap for Friday, November 1. The Flashes head to Oxford, Ohio, to take on Miami in the final MAC game ahead of the conference tournament.
About the Flashes
Kent State enters Friday on a three-match win streak, having clinched their spot in the MAC tournament following the most recent 3-2 victory over Bellarmine last Friday. In the win, junior defender Lauren Conroy scored the first two goals of her collegiate career to lead the Flashes. Both goals came at the end of two very similar penalty corner plays, receiving assists from Maia Sarrabayrouse and Agustina Florio. Conroy earned MAC Defensive Player of the Week for her role in the Kent State win. Eva Usoz scored the third and final goal for the Flashes, firing an impressive finish across goal from the edge of the circle. With one game of MAC regular season play remaining, the Flashes sit in fourth place in the league standings and can move up to third place with a win on Friday by six or more goals.
Scouting Miami
The RedHawks enter Friday's match with a 9-7 overall record and a 6-1 record in MAC play, currently sitting third in the conference behind James Madison and App State. Similar to Kent State, Miami played just one match last weekend, recording a 3-1 victory at Central Michigan on Friday. Claudia Negrete Garcia leads the RedHawks in scoring with 11 goals this season, while Carlie Servis and Berta Marta each have double-digit assists with 14 and ten, respectively.
The Series
The Flashes lead the all-time series with Miami 51-41-2. The home team has won the last four matchups between the teams as Kent State recorded a 2-1 win in last season's regular season contest before the RedHawks exacted revenge with a 3-1 victory in last season's MAC tournament final, which was contested in Oxford.
