KENT, Ohio – The Kent State Field Hockey team is preparing to play Ohio in the regular season finale on Friday afternoon in Athens, Ohio.
The Golden Flashes can clinch a spot in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Tournament with either a Bellarmine loss to Ball State tomorrow or a victory over Ohio on Friday at 3 p.m. Kent State has a chance to be either the No. 4, No. 5, or No. 6-seed if they make the MAC postseason.
Last Time Out
The Golden Flashes lost both games last weekend, falling 0-5 to 11th-ranked Miami on the road and then dropping the final home game of the year 1-4 to Ohio State. The home loss to Ohio State was one of the most amplified environments of the year at Murphy-Mellis Field as Senior Day brought a high quantity of fans to the stadium.
Phillippa Jowett scored the opening goal of the game for Ohio State in the first quarter. Maybritt Duwel ended up tying the game for Kent State in the 3rd quarter off a crossing pass from Addie Gagnon. The play increased Duwel to seven points on the year, while Gagnon now has six.
Goalkeeper Michaela Skinner and the stifling Golden Flashes' defense stopped four consecutive penalty corners at the beginning of the second half to keep the game tied at one apiece heading into the final frame. Although the Buckeyes took over in the 4th quarter, Kent State will look to build off the positive momentum heading into the game against Ohio.
