KETTERING, Ohio – The Kent State men's golf team concluded their Fall season with the program's first team win since the 2022 MAC Championship on Tuesday at the Dayton Flyer Invitational. The Flashes shot a 15-over-par 299 in round three to finish the event at 15-over-par, edging out runner-up Marquette by two strokes.
The Flashes were led by Jordan Gilkison, who claimed the individual championship for the first win of his collegiate career. A strong closing round 2-under-par 69 helped the senior conclude the event at 3-under-par, one stroke ahead of the runner-up. After opening his third round with a bogey, Gilkison responded with four birdies throughout the day to claim pole position among the 79 golfers competing. In addition to this being his first win, Gilkison now has five top-ten finishes this season.
Isaiah Ibit was the other Flash to finish the Flyer Invitational in the top five, the second time he has done so in an impressive opening Fall to his collegiate career. Ibit recorded a 5-over-par 76 to conclude the tournament 1-over-par and tied for fifth place.
Bryce Reed and Nolan Haynes rounded out the countable third-round scores toward the team total for the Flashes. Reed fired a 4-over-par 75 to finish at 8-over-par and tied for 21st within the individual standings. Haynes ended his first Fall season with an 8-over-par 79 to conclude the tournament in 61st place. Despite a 9-over-par 80 in round three, Edvin Backstrom finished the Flyer Invitational tied for 28th place at 10-over-par.
Ramiro Acevedo posted an impressive 54-hole performance competing as an individual. The freshman from Argentina posted a 1-over-par 72 in Tuesday's third round to finish tied for 15th place at 6-over-par. Acevedo recorded a consistent round three performance, including 15 pars and one birdie.
After concluding the Fall season in style, the Flashes will not return to action until the Hal Williams Intercollegiate in February.
