
Kedronova Wins Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kent State women's golf team concluded their fourth tournament of the Fall on Tuesday with round three of the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational. The Flashes fired a 16-over-par 304 in round three to end the event in third place of the 13 teams competing at 19-over-par. Veronika Kedronova fired a final-round even-par 72 to claim the individual championship at 5-under-par.
For Kedronova, Tuesday marks her second win of the season and third of her career after winning the Red Raider Invitational just two weeks ago. The sophomore entered round three tied with four other golfers at 5-under-par and outlasted all four, finishing two strokes ahead of multiple golfers in second place. Kedronova began her day on fire with three consecutive birdies on holes two through four. After multiple bogeys in the middle of her round, she ended the day with a birdie at hole no. 18 to cement her spot atop the standings among the 66 golfers competing.
Aryn Matthews posted the highest finish of her freshman season at the Sunflower Invitational, wrapping her tournament up in a tie for eleventh place. Matthews fired a 4-over-par 76, including three birdies on the back nine, to conclude the tournament at 2-over-par. Her finish marks the second top-15 placement of her collegiate career in just four tournaments.
Freshman Gracie Larsen recorded the third-best finish among Flashes competing at 10-over-par. She fired three birdies on Tuesday to post a third-round 5-over-par score of 77. Petra Babicova was responsible for the final third-round score countable toward the Kent State team total. The freshman fired a 7-over-par 79 to round out a third-place finish for the Flashes' team.
Competing as an individual this week, Jennifer Gu posted a 6-over-par 78 on Tuesday to conclude her tournament at 17-over-par. She wraps up the Sunflower Invitational tied for 45th place.
Home course advantage proved to be a strong factor for Kansas, as they claimed the team title at 6-under-par. The Jayhawks finished 11 strokes ahead of runner-up Missouri and 25 strokes ahead of the Flashes.
Kent State will return to action for their final tournament of the Fall on Sunday, October 20, at the Mercedes Benz Intercollegiate in Knoxville, Tennessee.
