The Kent State women's basketball team will finish its first road trip of the season Saturday night against Elon. Tip from the Schar Center is scheduled for 8 p.m.
The Golden Flashes (1-2) battled 13th-ranked NC State for the first 30 minutes on Thursday night before running out of gas in a 79-51 setback. Despite only having nine players in uniform, Kent State had the Wolfpack on upset alert at halftime by knocking down eight three-pointers to be within 33-28. An extended scoring drought to start the fourth allowed NC State to more than double its lead entering the final period. Senior Bridget Dunn made a career-high five three-pointers and led the Flashes with 17 points and eight rebounds. Senior Jenna Batsch added 15 points and three assists.
Preseason All-MAC First Team selection Jenna Batsch is the top scorer on the season at 12.7 points per game. Riley Rismiller, a transfer from Dayton, has made an immediate impact with averages of 12.0 and 6.0 rebounds per game. Kaley Perkins (10.5 ppg) and Journey Hildebrand (10.0 ppg) have also been double-figure scorers through three games. Bridget Dunn ranks third in the Mid-American Conference in both rebounding (10.0 rpg) and blocked shots (1.7 bpg).
Scouting Elon
The Phoenix (2-1) were removed from the ranks of the unbeaten on Wednesday, dropping a road game to Marshall, 65-56. Elon opened the season with wins against High Point and Gardner-Webb, matching the home wins total from the entire 2023-24 campaign.
Guards Jayda Angel (11.7 ppg), Laila Anderson (11.0 ppg) and Raven Preston (11.0 ppg) have been the top scorers. Preston is grabbing 10.3 rebounds per contest and also leads Elon in steals (8) and assists (6).
