KENT, Ohio — The Kent State women's basketball team recorded its second 20-point victory of the week at the M.A.C. Center on Saturday afternoon, defeating Xavier, 89-69.
The Golden Flashes (3-3) matched the season-high with 13 three-point field goals and shot 16-of-17 at the free throw line to post back-to-back wins of 20 or more points against Division I non-conference opponents for the first time since 2010.
Sophomore Mya Babbitt scored a career-high 25 points on 7-of-10 shooting, while senior Bridget Dunn recorded her first double-double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Kent State took a 17-8 lead on Babbitt's first three-pointer of the day a little over six minutes into the game, but the Musketeers answered with a 10-0 run to retake the lead. Babbitt converted a pair of free throws to put the Flashes ahead for good, and junior Dionna Gray closed the period on a personal 5-0 run to make it 24-18.
Dunn dominated the second quarter with 10 points and four rebounds to help extend the lead to 41-30 at halftime.
After Xavier cut its deficit to single digits less than two minutes into the third, Kent State put together a 13-2 run to lead by 20 for the first time. The Musketeers scored eight in a row before a jumper by freshman Meghan Murray made it 60-46 entering the final 10 minutes.
The Flashes shot 9-of-11 from the floor, including 6-of-7 from three-point range, and put 29 points on the board in the fourth, its highest scoring quarter of the season against a D-I opponent.
Kent State will spend Thanksgiving in San Juan and are scheduled to play Brown (Nov. 28) and Colorado State (Nov. 29) in the Puerto Rico Clasico.
