
Women’s Basketball Heads to Puerto Rico Clasico

The Kent State women's basketball team travels to San Juan for Thanksgiving weekend and will play a pair of games as part of the Puerto Rico Clasico.
The Golden Flashes (3-3) are scheduled to play Brown on Thursday and Colorado State on Friday. Both games are scheduled to tip at 1:30 p.m. ET inside of Ruben Rodríguez Coliseum.
Kent State has posted back-to-back wins of 20 or more points against Division I non-conference opponents for the first time since 2010 after beating Duquesne (81-61) and Xavier (89-69) last week at the M.A.C. Center. Strong backcourt play from sophomore Mya Babbitt and junior Dionna Gray led the way. Babbitt averaged 19.5 points per game on 57.9% shooting and had a career-high 25 against Xavier. Gray scored a career-high 20 points in her season debut against Duquesne and posted two -game averages of 15.5 points and 6.0 assists per game.
Preseason All-MAC First Team selection Jenna Batsch is the top scorer on the season at 13.3 points per game and is one of only three players in the nation who are perfect at the free throw line with at least 20 attempts. Mya Babbitt (11.7 ppg) is among the Mid-American Conference leaders in three-pointers per game (2.5) and three-point field goal percentage (.469). Bridget Dunn (8.8 ppg) is second in the MAC in rebounding (9.8 rpg) and sits eighth in country in defensive rebounds per game (8.8). Riley Rismiller, a transfer from Dayton, has made an immediate impact with averages of 11.3 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.
Scouting Brown
The Bears (2-4) lost to Rhode Island, 63-58, in their last game on Saturday. Brown ranks ninth in the country in three-point field goal attempts per game (30.3) but just 252nd in three-point field goal percentage (.275).
Guard Grace Arnolie had a career-high 27 points against the Rams and is the top scorer at 14.3 points per game. Center Gianna Aiello has posted three double-doubles this season and enters the event with averages of 9.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game.
Scouting Colorado State
The Rams (5-2) already have a Quad 1 victory over Oregon State and rank in the top-20 in the country in turnovers per game (8.0), assist-to-turnover ratio (2.06), field goal percentage defense (.327) and fouls per game (12.8).
Sisters and Emma and Hannah Ronsiek lead the way in most statistical categories. Emma transferred during the offseason after scoring more than 1,600 points as a three-time All-Big East selection at Creighton. One of 20 players named to the preseason watch list for the Katrina McClain Power Forward of the Year Award, she averages 15.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. Hannah adds 10.4 points and 53 rebounds per game
Series History
• Kent State is 1-1 all-time against Brown.
• The Golden Flashes won the first ever meeting, 70-63, on a neutral floor in Fort Collins, Colorado on Nov. 25, 1995.
• The Bears evened the series with a 62-57 victory at the M.A.C. Center on Dec. 22, 2015.
• Kent State and Colorado State have never met on the hardwood.
