
Women’s Hoops Resumes #MACtion Saturday at Central Michigan

The Kent State women's basketball team will take the court for just the third time during the month of February on Saturday when it battles host Central Michigan at 1 p.m. inside of McGuirk Arena.
The Golden Flashes (14-7, 9-2 MAC) have split their two games this month, defeating Western Michigan, 70-57, on Feb. 7 and falling to Old Dominion, 82-76, in a MAC-Sun Belt Challenge contest last Saturday. Kent State led the Monarchs by 10 late in the third quarter before the visitors went on a 26-6 run to take control. Redshirt senior Katie Shumate posted her fourth double-double of the season with 26 points and 12 rebounds, tying her season-high in both categories.
Kent State has been terrific on the defensive side of the ball and ranks second in the MAC in points allowed (61.5 ppg), opponent field goal percentage (.380), rebounding margin (+5.4) and turnover margin (+3.0).
Preseason All-MAC First Team guard Katie Shumate leads the Flashes with averages of 14.3 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. Forward Jenna Batsch has been among the most improved players in the MAC this season and is averaging 13.3 points per game. Guard Corynne Hauser (9.8 ppg) owns a 1.71 assist-to-turnover ratio and is averaging the most assists per game (4.2) by a Kent State player since the 2014-15 season. Forward Janae Tyler (9.0 ppg) is one of the top scorers among reserve players in the MAC, while forward Bridget Dunn (6.3 ppg) have also posted multiple double-digit scoring performances. Dunn averages a career-high 6.5 rebounds per game and leads the Flashes with 32 three-point field goals.
Scouting Central Michigan
The Chippewas (5-16, 3-8 MAC) have lost two in a row after closing January with wins against Western Michigan and Miami. Central Michigan is the best rebounding team in the MAC (+6.1 rpg) and ranks last in the conference in free throw percentage (.653) and turnover margin (-6.5).
Guard Karrington Gordon (10.1 ppg) is the team's top scorer and averages 12.9 points per game in MAC play. Center Rochelle Norris (8.2 ppg, 8.4 rpg) and guard Taylor Anderson (7.1 ppg, 6.5 rpg) are the top rebounding duo in the conference. Norris ranks second in the league with an average of 1.6 blocks per game. Guard Tiana Timpe (7.8 ppg) has made a team-best 70 three-point field goals.
