KENT, Ohio — Kent State's Jackie Wolford is among the 626 institutional nominees for the 2024 NCAA Woman of the Year award, the NCAA recently announced.
Wolford concluded her career as the Mid-American Conference's all-time leader in points (241) and goals (197) and set conference single-season records with 82 points and 69 goals during her MAC Offensive Player of the Year campaign in 2023. She earned All-MAC First Team honors each of the past three seasons following second-team and Freshman of the Year accolades as a rookie in 2021.
The Columbus native received CSC Academic All-District recognition the past two seasons and was a three-time Academic All-MAC honoree. She graduated in May with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science.
Wolford was also the Judy Devine Award recipient, which recognizes a Kent State senior student-athlete who has exhibited leadership in all facets of a student-athlete's life, including team, department, collegial unit, and community.                                          .
Each conference will select up to two nominees each from their pool of nominees, if at least one of the nominees is a woman of color or an international student-athlete. The Woman of the Year selection committee will then choose 10 women from each division to make up the Top 30 to be announced in October. The selection committee will determine the top three honorees in each division announced in November, and the NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics will determine the 2024 NCAA Woman of the Year. The Woman of the Year will be celebrated at the 2025 NCAA Convention in January.
One of the most prestigious NCAA accolades, the Woman of the Year award was established in 1991 and honors the academic achievements, athletics excellence, community service and leadership of graduating female college athletes from all three divisions. To be eligible, a nominee must have competed and earned a varsity letter in an NCAA-sponsored sport and must have earned her undergraduate degree by summer 2024.
