Flashes Record Third Place Finish at Boilermaker Classic

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Kent State women's golf team held steady at the Boilermaker Classic on Tuesday, concluding the third and final round of the tournament in third place. The Flashes shot a 9-over-par 297 as a team in round three to finish the tournament with a team score of 31-over-par at Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex.
The low rounds of the day for the Flashes came from a pair of freshmen as Gracie Larsen and Aryn Matthews each fired 1-over-par rounds of 73 on Tuesday. Larsen bounced back from a double bogey at hole no. 3 with back-to-back birdies on hole no. 4 and 5. An otherwise consistent round enabled her to record a top-ten finish in her first collegiate tournament, tying for ninth out of the field of 87 players at 6-over-par.Â
Matthews utilized three birdies on the round to conclude her tournament at 7-over-par, good enough for a 14th-place finish to open her college career.
After leading the Flashes yesterday, Veronika Kedronova posted a consistent round of 3-over-par, highlighted by 15 pars. Her 6-over-par tally for the tournament was good enough to secure a top-ten finish to start her sophomore season, tying for ninth alongside Larsen.
The other third-round countable score toward the team total for the Flashes came from Isabella Goyette. The freshman concluded her first collegiate tournament at 15-over-par and tied for 37th place.
In the end, home course advantage paid off for Purdue as the Boilermakers claimed first place with a final team score of 15-over-par. The Flashes also finished just two strokes behind Minnesota, who used a strong final round to record a team score of 29-over-par.
The Flashes will return to action on September 24 as they head to Lubbock, Texas to take part in the Red Raider Invitational.Â
