LUBBOCK, Texas – The Kent State women's golf team concluded their second tournament of the Fall on Wednesday with the third and final round of the Red Raider Invitational at The Rawls Course. Veronika Kedronova claimed the second individual win of her career over the field of 87 players with a 7-under-par finish. The team fired a 3-over-par 291 to finish the event at 6-over-par and in fourth place out of the field of 16.
Kedronova displayed this week exactly why she earned an NCAA Championship bid and MAC Freshman of the Year honors last season. The sophomore put up a stellar performance this week, including three consecutive rounds of 70 or better, capped off by a 2-under-par 70 in round three to finish at 7-under-par. Unlike last season's Dick McGuire Invitational, where she finished tied for first, Kedronova concludes the Red Raider Invitational alone atop the leaderboard, one stroke ahead of the runners-up.
Kent State also had two freshmen finish the tournament inside the top 20, Gracie Larsen and Isabella Goyette. After firing back-to-back rounds of even-par yesterday, Larsen concluded her week with a third-round 2-over-par 74 to conclude the contest tied for 16th place. Goyette had a consistent week, recording her third consecutive round of one-over-par on Wednesday, finishing the competition at 3-over-par and tied for 20th place.
The final countable score toward the Flashes team total in round three came from Aryn Matthews. The freshman recorded a 2-over-par 74, her best round of the week, to conclude the tournament at 13-over-par and tied for 50th place.
Ultimately, the host Texas Tech was able to take advantage of playing on their home course, claiming victory in the team competition. The Red Raiders finished at 8-under-par, five strokes ahead of second-place UNLV.
The Flashes return to action on Monday, September 30 with the start of the Blessings Collegiate Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The women will compete alongside the men's team in the three-day competition, which will be televised live on the golf channel.
