KENT, Ohio – Head coach Brianne Tierney has announced that Allison Kortowich will serve as an assistant coach for the Kent State lacrosse program. Kortowich, who played at Kent State from 2020 to 2023, returns to the Flashes after spending one season as an assistant coach at the University of Mount Union.
In her lone season at Mount Union, Kortowich helped the Purple Raiders post a 12-4 overall record en route to a share of the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) regular season title. Additionally, eight Purple Raiders were named to the OAC all-conference teams in Kortowich's lone season with the team.
Prior to beginning her coaching career, Kortowich posted a stellar playing career at Kent State. She played in 57 games, starting 41 throughout her four-year career. She started all 18 games of her senior season, helping the Flashes claim a share of the MAC regular season championship for the first time in program history in 2023. Kortowich was named to the 2023 All-MAC Second Team to close out her playing career.
"We are so fortunate to have someone of Allison's character, love for lacrosse, and leadership abilities returning to Kent in a new role as 'coach'," Tierney said. "Allison's connection to our Kent State Lacrosse alumni and her commitment to the growth of Lacrosse in northeast Ohio made her a no-brainer to bring back to Dix Stadium. She graduated with a regular season MAC Championship ring in her last year as a player, and we are confident that she will bring that same MAC Championship mentality back in her first year with us as a coach."
