The Kent State field hockey team (0-2) is set to embark on a three-game road trip to California where the Flashes will face Stanford, California, and UC Davis. The matchup with Stanford is set for Thursday at 3 p.m., while the Flashes take on California on Friday at 7 p.m., before closing the weekend against UC Davis on Sunday at 5 p.m.ย
About the Flashes
Despite coming off of a weekend where the Flashes fell to Indiana 3-1 and no. 11 Liberty 4-1, the Flashes will look to build off of positives as head coach Heather Hefner grows increasingly comfortable with her team. Reigning MAC freshman of the year Eva Usoz has picked up right where she left off last season in midfield for the Flashes, recording two assists through two games. Bella Carpenter scored the opening goal of the season for Kent State against Indiana, while Agustina Florio found her way on the scoresheet against Liberty. Additionally, freshman goalkeeper Lieve Jansen tallied seven saves over the weekend while only playing the second half of each match.
Scouting Stanford
The Cardinal (2-0) opened their season by traveling to Muncie, Indiana, where they claimed a 4-1 neutral-site victory over Ohio and a 5-0 victory over host Ball State.
Scouting California
The Golden Bears (1-0) hosted Michigan State on Sunday to open their season, defeating the Spartans 2-1 in a match that went to overtime.
Scouting UC Davis
The Aggies (0-1) also hosted Michigan State to open their season on Friday, falling in a high-scoring affair 4-3.
The Series
The Flashes are 2-5 all-time against Stanford. The Cardinal took the last matchup over the Flashes 2-1 in 2018.
Kent State leads the all-time series against the Golden Bears 3-2. The Flashes won the last matchup between the two schools 2-0 in 2016.
The Aggies and the Flashes met for the first time last season. UC Davis came out with the victory 5-4 in a match that went to double overtime.
