Florio Scores as Flashes Fall at Cal

BERKELEY, Calif. โ The Kent State field hockey team continued their California road trip on Friday, facing their second ACC team in two days, falling 3-1 to the California Golden Bears.
The Flashes put up a stout defensive effort in the first quarter. Despite not recording a shot, Kent State was able to hold California to a 0-0 stalemate entering the second quarter. The Golden Bears were able to break the deadlock three minutes into the quarter, finding the back of the cage through a penalty corner.ย
After going into the half with a 1-0 lead, California strengthened their advantage with goals midway through the third and fourth quarters to establish a 3-0 advantage.
The Flashes were able to find their way onto the scoresheet with four minutes remaining in the match. Senior midfielder Agustina Florio recorded her second goal of the season through a penalty corner. Assists on the play went to Emma Rolston for the insert and stopper Eva Usoz, her third assist of the young season.
Unfortunately, the goal proved to be too little too late as Kent State could not mount a late comeback. Freshman Lieve Jansen started in goal for the Flashes for the first time in her career, recording one save and one goal allowed in 30 minutes of action.
The Flashes close their California road stand on Sunday with a matchup against UC Davis at 5 p.m. EST.
