HONORING A PAIR OF KENT STATE LEGENDS
Following the death of Varsity "K" Hall of Fame member Jud Logan '82 in 2022, Kent State made the decision to name one of its home meets each season in his honor. A four-year letter winner who qualified for the NCAA Championships in 1980 and won three individual Mid-American Conference throwing titles, Logan went on to represent the United States in the hammer throw at four Olympic Games. A member of the National Throws Coaches Association (NTCA) Thrower's Hall of Fame, he was five-time USTFCCCA National Coach of the Year recipient and led his teams to three national championships during his 17 years as head coach at Ashland University.
The Jud Logan-Al Schoterman LIGHT GIVER Scholarship was established in 2022 in memory of Logan and to honor Schoterman, a two-time NCAA champion and 1972 Olympian who served as Kent State's throws coach during Logan's final two collegiate years. The recipient of the scholarship will be recognized along with Schoterman and members of the Logan family prior to the men's weight throw.
Additionally, the weight throw area will be named in Schoterman's honor each at this meet each year.
PREVIEWING THE FLASHES
Kent State has 73 student-athletes entered for competition, including two who won individual titles at at last year's Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships. Alexandre Malanda has won the men's triple jump two years in a row, while Sean Callahan Jr. captured the men's 60-meter dash as a freshman.
Additional All-MAC performers from last season who are slated to compete are Kristian Kneffler (men's pole vault) and Aliesha Shaw (women's shot put).
