About the Flashes
For the final time in the 2025 season, Kent State has two games scheduled this weekend. After facing Ohio on Friday and heading to Central Michigan on Sunday, the Golden Flashes will close the season with a pair of one-game weekends, hosting James Madison on Sunday, October 26, and traveling to App State on Friday, October 31.
In last Friday's 3-0 victory at Bellarmine, Kent State had its highest scoring output since the opening weekend of the season. Additionally, the Golden Flashes had at least three different goal scorers for the first time since the season-opening 10-1 victory over Mercyhurst. Lauren Conroy scored her fourth goal of the season with a successful penalty stroke to open the scoring against the Knights. Emma Seger and Eva Usoz each scored their third goals of the season to cement an emphatic victory for Kent State at Bellarmine. Goalkeeper Allison Wood earned her second clean sheet of the season in the contest, having to make just one save.
With the Flashes' win over Bellarmine, the team is right back in the race for a MAC Tournament spot, which is awarded to teams who finish in the top six of the conference standings. At 2-3 in conference play, Kent State moves into a tie for fifth place with three other teams, sitting in sixth according to tiebreaker rules. The Flashes are set to face two teams they are currently tied with this weekend, as Ohio and Central Michigan both possess 2-3 MAC records. Both contests will be pivotal in the race for a MAC Tournament berth, especially with challenges against James Madison and App State awaiting to end the regular season.
Scouting Ohio
The Bobcats enter Friday afternoon's game with some momentum on the back of two consecutive wins. Ohio earned a 2-1 overtime win over Queens on Sunday, October 5, followed by a crucial 1-0 victory over Ball State in Athens. Earlier this season, the Bobcats handed No. 17 UMass their first defeat of the season, the Minutewomen's only loss to date. The Bobcats have four players with two or more goals this season, led by three goals from senior forward Sasha Dikotla. While the Bobcats average just 1.31 goals per game, the goals have come at the right time as both of the team's MAC victories have been 1-0 shutouts at home.
The Golden Flashes are 56-27-2 all-time against Ohio. Kent State has won 13 of the last 14 meetings with the Bobcats, with the only defeat coming in 2023, a 3-2 Ohio win in the previous meeting between the teams. Last season, the Flashes pulled out a 2-1 overtime win in Athens, thanks to a spectacular game-winning goal from Eva Usoz that featured at No. 2 on SportsCenter's Top Ten Plays.
Scouting Central Michigan
After winning two of their opening three conference games, the Chippewas have dropped their last two MAC contests to UMass and App State. Sandwiched between those two games, Central Michigan recorded a dominant 5-0 win over Merrimack on a neutral field. With a 7-5 overall record in 2025, the Chippewas have impressed on both offense and defense. As a team, they are second in the conference in both saves (107) and save percentage (.781). Offensively, Central Michigan is third in the MAC with 2.917 goals per game. They are led on the attacking end by senior forward Mallory Camryn, who leads the conference with 14 goals in 2025.
Kent State leads the all-time series with the Chippewas 61-16. The Golden Flashes have won ten of the last 11 meetings between the sides, including a high-scoring 7-3 win in last season's matchup in Kent. Central Michigan's last win over Kent State came in 2021, a 1-0 contest in Mount Pleasant.
