
Kent State Soccer Gears Up For Big Road Matchup With Western Michigan

Kalamazoo, Mich.- The Kent State Soccer team will go head-to-head with the Western Michigan University Broncos, who currently sits atop the Mid-American Conference standings on Sunday at the WMU Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
Last Time Out
The Kent State Soccer team earned another point in Mid-American Conference Action, extending their unbeaten streak to five games in conference play on Thursday night as they forced a 1-1 draw on the road against Central Michigan.
The Golden Flashes came out of the gates fast as they scored the first goal of the game in the sixth minute as junior forward Josie Morgan put the ball in the back of the net for her third goal of the season.
KSU took the lead heading into the halftime break, but the Chippewas were able to answer with the equalizer in the 59th-minute. Jimena Perez Ayala scored for CMU on a penalty kick and the two teams remained deadlocked for the final thirty minutes to end the contest in a tie.
The Flashes once again led the game in shooting, putting up 17 shots compared to Central Michigan's eight. KSU also led in shots-on-goal 9-3; while winning in the corner kick tally by a count of 8-4 as well. Leah Shaffer added another pair of saves for the Blue and Gold, as Brylee Borgman contributed eight saves in net for the Chippewas.
Scouting Western Michigan
The Broncos have posted an impressive 10-3-1 record so far in 2025, which includes a 6-1-1 record in conference. They lead the conference in corner kicks with 100 and lead in the goals per game category as well.
Senior forward Abby Smothers leads Western Michigan with points this season coming off of six goals and three assists. Senior midfielder Drew Martin has contributed 14 points this season from four goals and six assists. Leading the team and the conference in assists is redshirt senior defender Abigail Baldridge who has accumulated seven assists in 13 games.
Sophomore midfielder Meredith Vance has put four goals in the back of the net this season while graduate student midfielder Avery Peters has scored three goals and three assists. Freshman goalkeeper Reagan Sulaver has started all 14 games for the Broncos, producing 44 saves in the process.
Series History
Sunday's contest will be the 30th all-time meeting between the Golden Flashes and the Broncos as KSU holds the slight edge in the series by a count of 14-11-4. Western Michigan defeated the Blue and Gold twice last year, including once in Kent and another time in the conference semifinals.
Up Next
After a contest with WMU, the Flashes will return to Zoeller Field at Dix Stadium on Thursday for their final home game of the 2025 season. They will take on the Toledo Rockets at 7 p.m.
