MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Kent State field hockey team battled the elements on Sunday afternoon for its third consecutive road victory with a 1-0 overtime win at Central Michigan. The Golden Flashes (4-9, 3-4) are now 2-2 in overtime contests this season, with today's win proving vital in the race for a MAC Tournament berth, which is awarded to the top six teams in the conference.
Kent State was dominant on the attacking end for much of Sunday's game, registering 32 shots compared to the Chippewas' ten. The Flashes also had 19 penalty corners in the contest, while Central Michigan had just five. Despite the aggressive offensive attempt, a resolute defensive effort from the Chippewas kept the game scoreless in regulation as the game entered overtime at 0-0.
The Flashes wasted no time taking advantage of the extra period as Maybritt Duwel found the game-winning goal after just one minute through an impressive penalty corner play. It marks the junior's team-high sixth goal of the 2025 season and her first game-winning goal of the campaign. Duwel's effort was creatively assisted by Eva Usoz, her second assist of the season.
In the cage, Allison Wood earned her third shutout of the season behind five saves as the Flashes held off numerous counterattacks by Central Michigan.
Kent State has two regular-season games remaining as the team pursues a top-six conference finish and MAC Tournament berth. The Flashes will host James Madison for Senior Day on Sunday, October 26, at noon before heading to App State for the regular season finale on October 31 at 3 p.m.
