PREVIEWING THE FLASHES
Kent State (5-8, 0-2 MAC) seeks its first conference victory after falling to Toledo and Bowling Green on the road last weekend.
Senior Mackenzie McGuire has been among the best offensive players in the MAC and ranks second in kills per set (4.17) and third in points per set (4.65). McGuire is No. 48 nationally with 200 total kills. She has recorded at least 10 kills in 11 of 13 matches.
A trio of newcomers have made immediate impacts to Kent State's attack, as freshman Macie Moreland (79), junior Mercedez Brown (78) and redshirt sophomore Adalynn Ginley (62) are the next three kills leaders. Ginley ranks third in the MAC in hitting percentage (.312) and seventh in blocks per set (1.00).
Junior Christina Vigil ranks fifth in the MAC at 9.04 assists per set and also leads the Flashes at 2.52 digs per set.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Buffalo
The Bulls (3-8, 0-2 MAC) have dropped 13 consecutive sets during their current five-match losing streak and have lost their past seven road contests dating back to the 2024 season. Outside hitter/right side Manoela Forlin leads the way with 3.53 kills per set. Freshmen Emerson Matthews (3.00 kps) and Maddie Mitchell (8.42 aps) have been impactful in their first collegiate season.
Akron
The Zips (7-6, 0-2 MAC) lost a pair of home contests last weekend to begin conference play. Outside hitters Delaney Gash (3.78 kps) and Maureen Mathews (3.60 kps) rank fourth and sixth, respectively, in the MAC in kills per set. Setter Martina Villani is fourth with 9.31 assists per set.
ALL-TIME VS. OPPONENTS
Kent State leads the all-time series with Buffalo, 35-21, and looks to end a six-match drought.
The Flashes own a 52-41 advantage in the rivalry with the Zips after splitting a pair of matches at the M.A.C. Center last season.
