
Volleyball Battles First-Place Cardinals, Fall in Four Sets

KENT, Ohio โ Kent State came up short in a competitive battle with first-place Ball State, 3-1 (20-25, 25-18, 19-25, 17-25), on Friday evening.
After fading late in a back-and-forth opening set that had 11 ties and six lead changes, the Golden Flashes (8-16, 3-10 MAC) made a statement the second. Facing a two-point deficit early, Kent State closed with a 21-12 run to finish the set with 16 kills and a .312 hitting percentage, while the Cardinals hit just .080 with seven kills.
The Flashes started strong in the third and led 15-13 at the media timeout, but Ball State turned the tables and closed with a 12-4 run to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
The teams split the first 20 points in the fourth set before the Cardinals won 15 of the next 22 to secure the victory.
Senior Mackenzie McGuire led all attackers with 16 kills while posting a .33 hitting percentage. Freshman Macie Moreland totaled 10 kills and redshirt sophomore Adalynn Ginley added nine kills and team-high four blocks. Junior Christina Vigil recorded a double-double with 39 assists and 11 digs.
Senior Greta Bolognini led the Flashes on defense with 13 digs and sophomore Hailey Brenner added 11.
Kent State and Ball State will battle again tomorrow at the M.A.C. Center with first serve scheduled for 4 p.m.
