About the Flashes
For the second consecutive week, the Golden Flashes will only have one game this weekend: Friday's matchup at Bellarmine. Kent State lost its lone game last weekend, a Sunday afternoon 3-2 overtime defeat to Longwood at Murphy-Mellis Field. Next weekend will be the Flashes' final multi-game weekend of the season, as the team hosts Ohio on Friday, October 17, before heading to Central Michigan on Sunday, October 19.
Emma Rolston found the back of the cage for the second consecutive game against Longwood, bringing her team-high season total to six goals. Rolston has also contributed two game-winning goals for the Flashes, most recently in overtime of the team's last victory at Ball State. Lauren Conroy has emerged as an offensive threat on penalty corners. The senior defender has three goals on the season after converting in the fourth quarter against Longwood.
Despite a heartbreaking defeat to Longwood on Sunday, Kent State was able to generate a plethora of chances against the Lancers. The Flashes outshot Longwood 29 to four in the contest, registering 19 shots on goal. The Lancers also tallied two defensive saves to add on to the frustration of Kent State's offense. The Flashes will be hoping to continue their high volume of chance creation with an increased conversion rate in Friday afternoon's game at Bellarmine, a contest that will be crucial in the MAC Tournament race.
While the Flashes didn't get the result they wanted on Sunday, the team still has ample opportunity to right the ship in conference play. Kent State's next three opponents, including Bellarmine on Friday, are outside of the top four in the current MAC standings, and none currently possess a winning record in conference play. If the Flashes hope to make the MAC Tournament in Harrisonburg this November, the next three games are as big as they come.
Scouting Bellarmine
The Knights enter Friday afternoon's contest at 2-10 on the season. Despite a .167 win percentage on the season, Bellarmine owns a 2-2 record in MAC play with a win at Longwood and a stroke-off victory at Ohio. Since the Knights' victory at Ohio last Friday, Bellarmine has dropped two non-conference games. They fell 1-0 in a neutral site contest with Queens in Athens on Saturday, before suffering a 6-0 defeat to Louisville on Tuesday on the home field that the teams share. After conceding 11 goals to Miami in the team's MAC opener, the Knights have given up just three goals in their last three conference games, a key to their two victories. Sophomore midfielder Luna Tuncay is the only Bellarmine player with multiple goals this season (2), while four other Knights have recorded one goal in 2025.
The Flashes are 6-0 all-time against Bellarmine, with all six of the matchups taking place in the last five years. Kent State has traveled to Louisville four times to take on the Knights, having yet to concede a goal in a road contest against Bellarmine. The two teams met at Murphy-Mellis Field last season, a 3-2 win for the Flashes that ultimately clinched a MAC Tournament berth for the team.
