
Kent State Hosts NIU for Volleyball Senior Weekend

Kent State concludes the 2025 volleyball season at the M.A.C. Center with matches against Northern Illinois on Friday and Saturday.
The senior class of Greta Bolognini, Paige McGee and Mackenzie McGuire will be recognized following Saturday's contest.

PREVIEWING THE FLASHES
Kent State (8-19, 3-14 MAC) has lost seven in a row with the last five coming against the three teams at the top of the Mid-American Conference standings.
Senior Mackenzie McGuire has been among the conference's best offensive players and ranks third in points per set (4.24) and kills per set (3.77). McGuire is No. 88 nationally with 351 total kills. She has recorded at least 10 kills in 20 of 26 matches.
A pair of newcomers have made immediate impacts to Kent State's attack, as freshman Macie Moreland (176) and junior Mercedez Brown (161) are the next two kills leaders.
Junior Christina Vigil ranks fourth in the MAC at 9.18 assists per set and is No. 55 in the nation with 881 total assists. She also leads the team at 2.53 digs per set.
MCGUIRE MAKING HER MARK
The only four-year member of the program, outside hitter Mackenzie McGuire officially entered the Kent State record book on Sept. 6 against Morgan State as the 17th member of the 1,000 kills club. She also tallied the 500th dig of her career during the match.
McGuire enters the final weekend of her career sixth on the Flashes all-time kills list with 1,266 and needs 20 to tie Ashley Feutz (2005-08) for fifth.
The Broken Arrow, Oklahoma native has been one of the most productive attackers in program history in terms of kills per set. McGuire's average of 3.44 is the third highest all-time.
BLOCK PARTY
With an average of 2.09 blocks per set, Kent State is having its most successful blocking season since 2021. Middle blocker Adalynn Ginley has made an immediate impact this fall after arriving to campus for the spring semester as a transferย from Marshall. Ginley ranks eighth in the MAC with 1.02 blocks per set.
The block has picked up during conference play, as Kent State is averaging 2.24 per set against MAC competition. Middle blocker Nadia Miller leads the way with 1.10 blocks per set in league play, with Ginley (1.02 bps) and setter Christina Vigil (0.80 bps) close behind.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Entering their last weekend as a member of the MAC, the Huskies (11-14, 4-12 MAC) have lost three in a row. NIU has gone 1-8 in true road matches with the lone victory at IU Indy back on Sept. 13. Outside hitters Emma McCartney (2.85 kps) and Ava Grevengoed (2.77 kps) lead the attack, while middle blocker Rylea Alvin is the top defender with an average of 1.13 blocks per set that ranks sixth in the conference.
ALL-TIME VS. OPPONENTSย
Kent State is 11-33 against Northern Illinois. Each of the past five matches have been decided in just three sets with the Golden Flashes going 2-3.
