
Kent State Hosts Walsh Monday for Women’s Basketball Home Opener

Kent State women's basketball hosts Walsh for the home opener at the M.A.C. Center on Monday at 5 p.m., beginning a busy stretch of four games over the next 10 days.
The Golden Flashes (0-2) were voted as the favorite in the Mid-American Conference preseason poll and ranked 10th in the Mid-Major Top 25 and maintain a bright outlook for the season despite lopsided losses on the road against talented James Madison and West Virginia teams during the first week of the season.
Junior Mya Babbitt averaged a team-high 10.0 points per game over the two games and grabbed 6.0 rebounds per game. Babbitt made her 100th career three-point field goal and scored a season-best 13 points against the Mountaineers on Friday night. Junior Riley Rismiller has been productive around the basket with averages of 9.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per contest.
Scouting Walsh
First-year head coach Johnny Montello returns to Walsh for his third stint on the staff and first as head coach. His roster includes three of the top four scorers from last year's team that had a 9-19 record. Guard Mallory Oddo is the top returner with averages of 9.7 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. Guard/forward Emma Dretke averaged 7.8 points per contest and shared the team lead with 35 three-point field goals.

• Kent State beat Walsh, 113-54, in the first ever matchup between the schools on Nov. 7, 2024.
• The Golden Flashes have scored more than 113 points just twice in program history.
• Mya Babbitt led all scorers with 20 points and Journey Hildebrand was right behind with a career-high 19.
