Track and Field Teams Aim to Climb Podium at MAC Indoor Championships
2/27/2025 8:17:00 PM | Men's Track & Field, Women's Track & Field
Kent State will compete at the 2025 Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships inside of Eastern Michigan University's Bowen Field House on Friday and Saturday. Competition will begin at 10 a.m. both days.
PREVIEWING THE MEN
The Golden Flashes will attempt to win back-to-back indoor conference titles for the time in program history and have three student-athletes who captured individual gold a year ago entered for competition.
Alexandre Malanda ranks fifth nationally in the triple jump and will compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships in two weeks. Malanda seeks to become just the second competitor in MAC history to win the event at three consecutive indoor meets. His school record mark of 53'-5.75" is five feet further than any other jumper in the conference. Nicolas Saviron is also expected to be in contention for a medal in the event and is seeded third.
Sean Callahan Jr. won the 60-meter dash as a freshman and will likely need to run his best race of the season to repeat in the event. Callahan Jr. is seeded fifth, while Jaheim Jones is seeded second.
Liam Vinskovich took gold in the high jump during his first season at Kent State and enters as the No. 2 seed.
Donovan Crawford and Zamen Siyoum are the favorites in the weight throw and 60-meter hurdles, respectively.
Preston Rieger (800m), Kristian Kneffler (pole vault), Layne Studer (pole vault), Amare Hall (long jump) and Ethan Yost (mile) are all ranked in the top three in their events and should challenge for medals.
PREVIEWING THE WOMEN
The Flashes will go for their first indoor MAC title since 2014.
Amryne Chilton looks to score big and should contend for medals in three events. Chilton's school record time is good for the top seed in the 60-meter dash, and she is the third seed in the 200-meter dash. The sophomore is also expected to run the 4x400-meter relay as part of a squad that is seeded third.
Keeli Dunaway is the favorite in the triple jump and has set a new personal-record in all three meets this season.
Aliesha Shaw seeks her first shot put gold after runner-up finishes each of the past two years and enters ranked second in the event.
Shelby Grover will be busy on the opening day of the meet in the heptathlon and long jump in which she is seeded second and fourth, respectively.
NEXT UP FOR KENT STATE
Kent State athletes that rank in the top 16 nationally in their respective events will qualify for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held in Virginia Beach, Virginia from March 14-15.
