GREENVILLE- The Kent State Golden Flashes fell to the Virginia Tech Hokies 2-7 Saturday afternoon at the Keith LeClair Classic.
On the bump, Nick Guidas pitched well in his first start of the season. After allowing two runs in the bottom of the first the redshirt junior settled in and pitched three scoreless innings. Guidas' line finished with four innings pitched allowing just the two runs on four hits and striking out three Hokies.
Kent State chipped away at the Virginia Tech lead in the top of the second with an RBI single by Sawyer Solitaria that brought in Brody Williams. The Flashes tied the game in the top of the six when Hunter Klotz shot a single through the left side that scored Hayden Jatczak from second base.
The Hokies would score two runs in the bottom of the sixth to regain the lead and added three more insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth.
The Flashes threatened in the top of the seventh by loading the bases but could not bring anyone in to score.
Kent State will be back in action Sunday March 2 to close out their weekend at the Keith LeClair Classic. First pitch against the Indiana State Sycamores is slated for 11 a.m.
