AWENDAW, S.C. – The Kent State men's golf team wrapped up the Hootie at Bulls Bay Golf Club on Tuesday, firing an impressive 12-under-par 276 as a team. The Flashes conclude the event in eighth place among the 15 teams competing at 15-under-par, the team's second-best score to par this season.
The Flashes were led in round three by Isaiah Ibit, who continued a phenomenal freshman season with a strong performance this week. Ibit posted a 4-under-par 68 in round three, firing five birdies to just one bogey for his team-high 11th round in the 60s this season. He concludes the Hootie at Bulls Bay tied for 16th place among the 84 golfers competing, his fifth top-20 finish of the season.
Another freshman Flash who tied for 16th in the tournament was Nolan Haynes, who fired a 3-under-par 69 on Tuesday. Similarly to Ibit, Haynes played a near-flawless round with just one bogey to four birdies. He finishes the tournament at 6-under-par after recording three consecutive rounds under par for the first time in his career. Haynes now owns seven rounds of par or better in his freshman season.
Jordan Gilkison rounds out a trio of Kent State golfers who shot in the 60s on Tuesday, firing a 3-under-par 69 in round three. After struggles in the opening two rounds, the stellar senior responded with his tenth round in the 60s this season. After going even on the front nine with a pair of birdies and bogeys, Gilkison finished strong on the back nine with three birdies and six pars to end the tournament on a positive note, tied for 71st.
The final score countable toward the Flashes' team total on Tuesday was earned by Ramiro Acevedo, who tallied a 2-under-par 70 to conclude his tournament. After sitting at 3-over-par through 36 holes, the freshman put together his best round of the week to improve his final standing to 1-over-par and tied for 50th place. Acevedo's round was highlighted by an eagle at hole no. 4, the only eagle recorded by a Kent State golfer in the tournament.
While his third-round score may not have counted, Bryce Reed rounded out a solid all-around day for the Flashes in which all five competitors earned scores of par or better. The senior recorded an even-par 72 for the second day in a row to conclude the Hootie at Bulls Bay 1-under-par and tied for 42nd place. After shooting 3-over-par on his front nine, Reed responded with three birdies and no bogeys on the back nine to salvage an even-par final round.
The Flashes will return to action closer to home in just over two weeks as they take part in the Buckeye Invitational beginning on Friday, April 11, at OSU Golf Club in Columbus.
