KENT, Ohio – The Kent State Golden Flashes football team took to the field Monday morning for their first spring practice session of 2025, marking the official beginning of preparation for the 2025 season.
"It was great to be back out here with the guys, and I thought the energy was super high," said offensive coordinator Mark Carney. "The guys were competitive, ready to work today. We have to clean up our details and we're excited for opportunity number two tomorrow morning."
The Golden Flashes are looking to rebound after a difficult 2024 campaign and face a daunting 2025 schedule that includes non-conference road games at Texas Tech, Florida State, and Oklahoma.
Quarterback Competition Begins
All eyes were on the quarterback position, where a battle is expected to unfold throughout spring practices. Returning signal-callers and newcomers rotated through reps during 7-on-7 drills.
Defense Shows Promising Signs
The defensive unit appeared ahead of the offense on day one, which is typical for spring ball. The secondary was particularly active, breaking up several passes during 7-on-7 sessions, and newcomer Angelo Stockstill recorded an interception.
"The energy was there; our guys did a great job of flying around," said defensive coordinator Kody Morgan. "That's part of the culture here. We coach our guys to go play really, really fast. We definitely have to clean up the details. That's always kind of day one with guys flying around with really high energy."
Looking Ahead
The Golden Flashes will return to the practice field Tuesday morning for their second practice.Â
Kent State opens its 2025 campaign at home on August 30 vs. Merrimack.
