Flashes Open Home Stand with Run Rule Victory

KENT- The Kent State Golden Flashes baseball team opened their nine-game home stand with a 14-3 run rule victory over the Ohio Bobcats on Thursday night.
Jake Casey got Kent State on the board in the bottom of the first inning when he took a 1-2 pitch and parked it over the wall in right centerfield.
Kent State would hang a crooked number on the scoreboard striking for eight runs in the bottom of the third. The first run would come across on a sacrifice bunt by Micah Rienstra-Kiracofe. The next seven runs would all come in with two outs in the inning. The first four would come in on back-to-back-to-back singles by Alejandro Covas, Luke Matthews, and a two-run single by Hayden Jatczak. Just one batter later Casey would bring in Jatczak on an RBI triple up the right field line. Two more runs would come in on RBI singles by Sawyer Solitaria and Hunter Klotz.
Ohio would get two in the top of the fourth on a two-run homer to left. Kent State would get one back in the bottom half when Ripken Reese scored on a sacrifice fly to center off the bay of Covas.
The Bobcats would get a sacrifice fly of their own the top of the fifth.
Kent State would put the game out of reach in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a two-run triple by Covas and a Matthews sacrifice fly.
Gavin Jones started on the mound for the Flashes and went five innings allowing three runs on three hits en route to his fourth win of the season. Eric Chalus would come out of the bullpen for Kent State pitching the final two innings of the game allowing just one hit.
On Deck for the Flashes
Kent State and Ohio will face off on Friday Apr. 18 for game two of the three game series. First pitch from Schoonover is set for 3:00 p.m.
