4/3/2025 2:51:00 PM | Men's Track & Field, Women's Track & Field
Kent State will compete at Slippery Rock's Dave Labor Invitational as the outdoor track and field season resumes this weekend.
Hammer throw will take place on Friday, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Competition on Saturday will begin at 10 a.m. with shot put, discus throw and the 10k run.
PREVIEWING THE FLASHES
The majority of Kent State's 60 student-athletes registered for action will be competing for the first time during the outdoor season.
Among entrants who competed last weekend, Gabrielle Hammonds was the top performer. Hammonds posted a time of 14.13 seconds in the women's 100-meter hurdles at the Bobcat Invitational, which ranks third in the Mid-American Conference.
All-MAC performers Aaron Schmook and Aliesha Shaw will make their season debuts. Schmook was the men's javelin champion last season, while Shaw took second in the women's shot put. Shaw will also throw the discus and was a NCAA East Prelims qualifier in both events a year ago.
Three additional Golden Flashes who own all-time top-10 event times are scheduled to compete. Andrea Filote ranks eighth in the women's 100-meter dash, Alexandria Verbancic sits eighth in the women's 400-meter hurdles and Ethan Yost is 10th in the men's 800-meter run.
NEXT UP FOR KENT STATE
The Flashes will travel to the Duke Invitational for competition from Thursday, April 10 through Saturday, April 12.
