
Shaw and Shippee Record Wins at Jesse Owens Classic

COLUMBUS — Kent State captured a pair of event wins during action this weekend at the Jesse Owens Classic. Due to rainy conditions on both Friday and Saturday, a limited number of Golden Flashes competed.
Payton Shippee won the men's javelin for the second week in a row with a personal-best throw of 193'-3" on his second attempt. Aliesha Shaw captured the other victory of the meet with a mark of 155'-4" in the women's discus throw. Other top throwing performances came from Kristen Jay, who placed third in the women's javelin with a throw of 145'-2", and Aubrey Schoeneman, who took fourth in the women's shot put with a mark of 44'-4.25".
A trio of Flashes placed third in jumping events. Zane Cattage set a PR by clearing 6'-10.25" in the men's high jump. Grace Adegoke recorded a height of 5'-7" in the women's high jump and Nicolas Saviron soared 22'-9" in the men's long jump.
A pair of personal-best times in the 400-meter hurdles highlighted limited running event competition. Beau Harkelroad recorded the No. 8 time in program history, finishing in 52.11 seconds for fourth place in the men's race. Marinna Atanmo took third in the women's race with a time of 1:00.91.
The Flashes will send the majority of the team to the Northeast Ohio Open at Akron next weekend, while distance runners will compete at Baldwin Wallace's Harrison Dillard Twilight.
