Flashes Take Series Opener Over Broncos on Graduation Night

KENT- The Kent State Golden Flashes baseball team took game one over the Western Michigan Broncos 6-5 on graduation night at Schoonover.

Kent State honored their nine graduating student-athletes and graduating Director of Baseball Operations, Jake Rook.

Western Michigan got the scoring started in the top of the third with an RBI double. Kent State responded and took the lead in the bottom of the inning on a 2-run home run off the bat of Hayden Jatczak.

The Broncos would strike again for four runs in the fourth, aided by a pair of errors by the Flashes' defense.

The comeback for the Flashes would start in the bottom of the fifth when Sawyer Solitaira roped an RBI double into the gap in left center.

Kent State would go on to tie the game in the sixth on back-to-back RBI single by Luke Matthews and Jatczak. The Flashes would take the lead on a sky-high pop up off the bat of Jake Casey that bounced out of the glove of the Broncos third baseman that allowed Matthews to score from third.

Jake Bean got the start on the mound for the Flashes and allowed just three earned runs in four innings of work while striking out three. Kent State then hand the ball to Benny Roebuck who would pitch 2.2 shutout innings en route to his second win of the season. Caden Leonard would get the hold for the Flashes pitching 1.2 shutout innings. Peyton Cariaco would come in and slam the door closed and earn his tenth save of the season.

Kent state and Western Michigan will meet for game two of the three game series on Saturday with a 3 p.m. first pitch.
