Nick Stricklen joined the Kent State track and field program as a graduate assistant coach in Aug. 2021 and assists with the men’s and women’s cross country teams and the distance events on the track.
In Sept. 2021, Stricklen won the 19th annual Akron Marathon in his first attempt at the marathon distance. He finished with a time of 2:25:07, averaging 5:32 minutes per mile. Three weeks following his debut at Akron, Stricklen finished sixth at the Columbus Marathon, in a time of 2:26:23.
Prior to joining the Kent State coaching staff, he was a team captain for The University of Akron’s cross country/track and field teams. Stricklen was a member of the program’s second highest finish at the 2019 NCAA Great Lakes Regional Cross Country Championships held in Madison, Wisconsin, placing eighth as a team. His individual performance was good enough for 39th with a time of 31:22. Stricklen’s highest finish at the Mid-American Conference Cross Country Championships was 12th in 2019 as a senior. On the track, he focused on the 3,000m event indoors and the 3,000m steeplechase outdoors with PRs of 8:17.33 and 9:06.02, respectively.
Stricklen graduated from The University of Akron with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science in May 2020. He is pursuing a master’s degree in Sport Administration through May 2023.
