JONESBORO, Ark. – Kent State (1-3) struggled to find rhythm Friday night (Nov. 22), eventually falling to Arkansas State (3-1) by a score of 61-92.
The Golden Flashes shot just 30% from the field in the first half to find themselves down 21-51 at the break. They improved to 40.7% in the second, but it was not enough, as Arkansas State shot an even 50% from the floor to earn the victory.
Kent State saw a positive spurt in the final six minutes as they worked to draw fouls and found success at the free-throw line where a combination of Mikell Chinn, Krista White and Larissa Lurken made 12 shots in 13 attempts.
Overall in the game, the Golden Flashes kept on pace with their free-throw percentage, shooting 82.6% from the charity stripe in 23 trips. Chinn was a big part of that, as she made seven of her eight shots to finish the night with a career-high seven points with three assists in her second start.
Three Kent State players reached double-digits in scoring as Amber Dunlap led with 12 points while Lurken and Rachel Mendelsohn netted 11 and ten, respectively. Dunlap and Lurken have now each scored at least ten or more points in three games this season.
Arkansas State's depth was on display in the game as twelve different players scored at least a point. Their bench contributed for 30 of the team's tallies. Hanna Qedan led all with 15 points while Jalen O'Bannon grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
The Golden Flashes have a day off before getting back in to action on Sunday (Nov. 24) when they face Belmont in a 4:00pm EST game. Listen in to all the action on Golden Flashes iHeart Radio or 640AM WHLO. Team updates are always available on Twitter at @flash_hoops.
