OXFORD, Ohio β Kent State (6-8, 3-0) went into a tough territory at Miami (4-11, 2-2) on Saturday and came out with a 2-1 win thanks to goals from Hannah Faulkner.
"It was a hard fought match by both teams," Head Coach Kathleen Wiler said.Β "To get a MAC win on the road is always a challenging thing, and we were up for the challenge."
The game was deadlocked with no score for most of the opening half before Madison Thompson found Faulkner five minutes before the break to give the Golden Flashes a 1-0 lead.Β That lead came in large part to a brilliant defensive save by Missy Ramsey from her knees 14-minutes in to the game to keep the score even at that point.
Miami was able to tie the game later in the second half, scoring on a penalty corner 55 minutes in, but Faulkner found the back of the net again just five minutes later for a the game-winning goal.Β The senior has now scored in six straight games and has nine goals in that span to bring her season total to a conference-leading 12.
"Hannah Faulkner had a great day," Wiler said, "not just scoring goals, but everything she was doing on the field."
The match was close statistically as Kent State had ten shots to Miami's eight and five corners to the RedHawk's seven.Β
Faulkner led the team with four shots in the game while Ines Delpech had three.Β Andrea Rinehart had three saves on the day to earn herself the win in net.
The Golden Flashes return to Murphy-Mellis Field for their final home games as they welcome two MAC foes, Ball State on Saturday the 25th and Longwood on Sunday the 26th.Β The matches are set to begin at noon and 1:00p.m., respectively.
