MT. PLEASANT, Mich. – Kent State (8-9, 5-1) entered Saturday's game as Mid-American Conference regular season champions and left with a share of the title after Central Michigan (7-11, 5-1) won 2-1.
The Chippewas struck first on a deflection on a corner play 30 minutes into the game. Not much later, Kent State answered after earning a corner of its own. After the initial shot, Hannah Faulkner found herself in the right position to put a rebound in the back of the net. She has now scored in nine-straight games, the second longest streak in Kent State history.
The deciding goal came as time expired in the opening half when Central Michigan was given another corner opportunity and capitalized for what would be the game-winning goal.
In the second half, Kent State possessed the ball the majority of the time with multiple opportunities, but could not score.
Central Michigan will have the No. 1 seed in next weekend's MAC Tournament and face No. 4 Ohio while Kent State will be the No. 2 and play No. 3 Miami. The tournament will be held in Kent on Nov. 7 and 8.
The Golden Flashes wrap up the regular season Sunday at No. 8 Northwestern.
