Kent State Ends Regular Season in Strong Showing at No. 8 Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. – Despite losing the game 1-0, Kent State (8-10) put forth a strong showing against No. 8 Northwestern (13-6) to close out the regular season Sunday afternoon.
The Golden Flashes held the Wildcats to one goal that came on a corner in the second half and just ten shots in the game. Kent State racked off six shots while goalkeeper Andrea Rinehart was solid in net with seven saves.
"We came out with a lot of energy, a lot of hard work," said Head Coach Kathleen Wiler. "The desire to win the ball today was just outstanding. I'm pleased that they feel proud of how they played today."
Ines Delpech led the attack with four shots while Hannah Faulkner and Silvia Figa Malgosa both contributed with one each. Northwestern led in penalty corners with eight compared to Kent State's two.
Kent State will now host the Mid-American Conference Tournament as regular season co-champions Nov. 7-8. As the No. 2 seed, the Golden Flashes will face No. 3 Miami Friday at 2:00p.m. No. 1 Central Michigan and No. 4 Ohio will start the tournament with a match at 11:30a.m. Both winners will meet in the championship on Saturday at 2:00p.m. with the winner advancing on an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
"Whatever they did today, we really need to carry this momentum into the tournament," Wiler said.
