MAC Tournament Comes to Murphy-Mellis Field Friday and Saturday

Kent State field hockey will work towards another championship this weekend as the team hosts the 2014 Mid-American Conference Tournament Friday and Saturday.
The event will begin with No. 1 seed Central Michigan facing No. 4 Ohio at 11:30a.m. Friday, Nov. 7. No. 2 Kent State will then play No. 3 Miami at 2:00p.m. The Championship match will be held Saturday at 2:00p.m. with the winner receiving an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.

• $10 – Adult Tournament Pass (good for all games)
• $6 – Adult Single Day ticket
• $2 – Youth Single Day ticket (under 12 years old)
• FREE admission for Kent State student with a valid ID
History
• Kent State has won nine Mid-American Conference Championships in the last decade
• Only two of those titles were in the tournament, in 2008 and 2010, although they also made it to the tournament championship final in 2011 and 2012.
• The Golden Flashes were crowned co-champions of the regular season with Central Michigan this year
• The last time the MAC Tournament was hosted by Kent State was in 2008
Matchups
• Kent State beat Miami 2-1 and Ohio 4-3 during the regular season. The only conference game the team lost this year was a 2-1 match at Central Michigan
• The Golden Flashes are 51-14 all-time against the Chippewas, 43-32-2 against Miami and 44-26-2 against Ohio
Top Honors
• The conference announced Thursday afternoon that Kent State swept the most prestigious individual postseason awards for the 2014 season
• Hannah Faulkner was named the MAC Player of the Year and Ines Delpech was named MAC Freshman of the Year as voted by all seven head coaches
• Julia Hofmann was named to the All-MAC First Team along with Faulkner
• Madison Thompson, Alayna Harris and Delpech earned Second Team honors
