Flashes Score Early and Often to Take Down RedHawks 13-4

KENT, Ohio – Kent State (22-11, 9-2 MAC) scored at least one run in each of the first five innings en route to a series-clinching 13-4 victory over Miami (13-20, 4-7 MAC) on Saturday night (Apr. 12).
"It was good to see our offense come out the way they did," said Head Coach Jeff Duncan. "They had great at-bats early in the game and capitalized on every free opportunity we possibly could have. One through nine, our guys all produced."
An Alex Miklos single and Zarley Zalewski single got the scoring started with a run in the first inning. Three more came in each the 2nd and 3rd frames. In the 2nd, Jeff Revesz and Sawyer Polen both singled before coming home on a triple from Miklos. Miklos scored in the next at-bat on a passed ball. In the 3rd, more singles by Zalewski and Revesz got the scoring started. A double play ball with bases loaded followed by another single by Polen, tallied the seventh run of the game.
Miami was able to break the shutout on a single, double and fielder's choice that gave them two runs in the 4th, but Kent State answered back with their biggest frame.
The Golden Flashes posted four runs on the board in the 4th after a triple, this time by Cody Koch, and a RBI single by T.J. Sutton. Revesz then followed with the biggest boom of the game – a two-run shot over the wall in left center.
The RedHawks were able to muster a run in the 6th and another in the 7th, but their hole was too deep, as the Flashes cruised to the 13-4 victory.
Miklos, Zalewski, Revesz and Polen all bolstered their batting averages with three hits on the night as the Golden Flashes finished with 19 total. Justin Wagler and Sutton also helped out with two hits each.
Not to be overshadowed by the offense, Kent State's pitching remained just as good. Nick Jensen-Clagg went 6.1 innings in the start with six hits, three earned runs, no walks and five strikeouts. Jared Skolnicki followed him with 1.1 innings of relief with zeros across his line except for a lone strikeout. Andy Ravel finished the game on a strikeout swinging, his third while allowing just one hit and one walk.
"He was really good," Duncan said of his starter. "It's tough to pitch in those circumstances when he pitches a half an inning then goes and sits down for half an hour. That's tough to do. But he stayed really focused and he had really good stuff again."
The series finale between Kent State and Miami is set to take place at 1:00pm on Sunday at Schoonover Stadium. Live audio will once again be available on Golden Flashes iHeart Radio with live stats and sidearmstats.com/kent/baseball and live tweeting @KentStBaseball.
