
Soccer Opens MAC Play at Home with Buffalo & Akron

KENT, Ohio- The Kent State women's soccer team opens up Mid-American Conference play at Zoeller Field this weekend when it hosts Buffalo at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 26 and Akron at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 28. Not only is Sunday's game vs. the Zips the first Wagon Wheel point of the 2014-15 year, but it is also senior day. Live stats will be provided for both games. LAST TIME OUT
Kent State went 1-0-1 last weekend, earning a 1-1 double overtime tie against Oakland, followed by a 3-0 victory over Eastern Kentucky. Against EKU, sophomore forward Jenna Hellstrom (Sudbury, Ontario) scored two goals and recorded one assist.
SCOUTING KENT STATE
Kent State heads into this weekend with a 5-2-1 record and is being led offensively by sophomore Jenna Hellstrom. Hellstrom, who has started in seven of eight games for the Flashes, leads the offense with seven points on two goals and three assists. Freshman Karli Paracca has added six points on three goals, while both Stephanie Haugh and Calli Rinicella each have four points.
The Golden Flashes are outscoring opponents 12-5 and have a commanding 42-26 lead in corner kicks.
Junior goalkeeper Stephanie Senn boasts a 5-2-1 record in goal, while earning five shutouts. She has allowed just five goals in eight games for a 0.60 goals-against-average, which ranks third in the Mid-American Conference, and has 41 saves (0.891) to rank third in the MAC.
SCOUTING BUFFALO
Buffalo has lost its last two games and arrives in Kent, Ohio, with a 4-2-1 record. The Bulls fell 5-0 at Virginia Tech on Friday, Sept. 12, and lost to the Ivy League's Cornell University, 3-2, on Friday, Sept. 19.
Sophomore forward Celina Carrero leads the offense with six points (2g, 2a), followed by senior forward Katie Roberts with five points (2g, 1a).
Buffalo freshman Laura Dougall has started in five of six games for the Bulls and has a 4-1-1 record with four shutouts. She has allowed just three goals (0.49 gaa) and has 23 saves (.885).
Last season Buffalo was 6-9-3 and was 3-7-1 in MAC play.
SCOUTING AKRON
Akron is on a four-game unbeaten streak with a 4-3-1 record. After losing to Cleveland State, 3-1, on Sept. 2, the Zips have defeated St. Bonaventure (3-1), tied Boston University (1-1), defeated Bryant (3-2) and Youngstown State (1-0).
Karina Atkinson leads the attack with five points on two goals and one assist, followed by Amy Dean, Loreana Lonigro and Sarah Sivic with four points apiece.
Klaire Adee has led the defense in goal and has a 3-2-1 record, including one shutout. A starter in five of six games, Adee has allowed 10 goals (1.74 gaa) and has 17 saves (.630).
THE RECORDS
Kent State and Buffalo are meeting for the 18th time, as the Golden Flashes lead the all-time series, 9-7-1. Kent State has been victorious in the last two meetings, including a 1-0 victory in Buffalo last season.
Akron and Kent State will meet for the 14th time on Sunday. The Golden Flashes have been victorious in the last three consecutive meetings and leads the all-time series 10-3-0.

The Golden Flashes will hit the road next week and travel to Northern Illinois for a 7 p.m. game on Friday, Oct. 3, followed by a 1 p.m. game on Sunday, Oct. 5 vs. Western Michigan.
