
Career High from Cross Not Enough as Flashes Fall at IPFW

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Kent State (1-2) struggled to hold down a hot-shooting IPFW (3-0) on Thursday night, dropping its first road game of the season by a final score of 86-68.
The Golden Flashes were a little slow out of the gate, not hitting their first field goal until five minutes into the contest. However, they warmed up to shoot 46% in the opening half from the field and sunk six free throws to make it a 41-30 game at the half. Ten Kent State turnover resulted in ten points for IPFW in the early going.
Out of the half, Jordan Korinek and Tyra James laid in a pair of shots but the Mastodons continued to keep making shots from deep range to remain ahead.
Naddiyah Cross made back-to-back jumpers to end the third quarter with Kent State trailing IPFW 70-51.
The Golden Flashes stepped up the pace to start the fourth quarter, but the Mastodons remained in control of the game to take the contest.
A big difference on the court came beyond the three-point line, where IPFW made 12 shots while Kent State sunk just three. The Mastodons also distributed the ball well with twenty assists. The rebound margin was even at 33 each.
Korinek finished with a team-high 17 points and nine rebounds while Cross set a new career best, scoring 15.
Kent State will now return home on Tuesday, November 24 for a 6:30 p.m. contest against Minnesota. The game is part of a doubleheader with the men's team, who will take on Saint Francis following the women's game. Tickets can be purchased online at kentstatesports.com or by calling 330-672-2244.
