Flashes Face American Wednesday to Start NCAA Tournament

NCAA play will begin for the Golden Flashes on Wednesday as they face American at 2:00 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
The Matchup
• Kent State is 1-2 all-time against American
• The two teams faced each other during the 2015 regular season with the Flashes scoring in double overtime for a 2-1 victory on the road
• Prior to that, American won 2-1 at home in 2010 in a NCAA postseason contest and 3-0 at a neutral site in 2007
• The Eagles earned an automatic berth after winning the Patriot League Tournament tile with a 2-1 win over Boston University
• The winner of the matchup will advance on to face No. 1 Duke who is also hosting Louisville and Delaware in regional play

• Tickets for Wednesday's contest at Jacobs Field are $8 for adults and $5 for youth and seniors
MAC Tournament Rewind
• Kent State earned an automatic berth after outscoring its opponents 6-1 in this past weekend's MAC Tournament
• Six different Flashes scored the goals as the team's well-rounded attack continued
• 11 different players have tallied points this season while eight different players have ten points or more
• The Kent State defense remained formidable as the team allowed just 13 shots and only one penalty corner
• The opposition's offense was shutdown in the second halves of both games, as Ball State and Miami were only allowed to get a total of four shots off in the second half
• The Golden Flashes totaled 42 shots and 20 corners in the two games to help earn the title
• Madison Thompson was named Tournament MVP while Ines Delpech, Jessica Nesbitt and Jamie Fries were also named to the All-Tournament Team
NCAA Postseason History
• This marks the 10th NCAA Tournament appearance for Kent State
• Last season the Flashes fell 1-0 in a close battle at UMass
• The program has one NCAA Tournament win in its history that came in a 2-1 triumph at Delaware in 2014 that put the Flashes in the final 16

• Head Coach Kathleen Wiler has maintained a high level of success in now her 11th season at the helm
• She was named MAC Coach of the Year this year for the 5th time in her career
• Wiler has the most MAC champion success in the history of the program with eight regular season and five tournament championships
• She is three wins away from having the most wins in Kent State field hockey history

• Andrea Rinehart is second all-time in minutes played in goal at Kent State
• Her 4980:47 minutes trails Dawn Malone who played 1983-1986 and logged 5302:00 minutes in the cage
• Rinehart also ranks 6th in career saves, 6th in victories and 6th in career shutouts
