No. 12 Men's Golf In Washington for NCAA Regional

KENT, Ohio – The No. 12 Kent State University men's golf team is set to compete in the NCAA Sammamish Regional, hosted by Washington at the Aldarra Golf Club May 15-17.
The Golden Flashes represent the two seed in Sammamish, set to compete in a field of 14 teams. The Flashes will look to finish among the top-5 teams in order to advance to the NCAA National Championship in Sugar Grove, Ill. May 26-31. The Flashes are in the first group teeing off on hole 1 at 8 a.m. PST.
Joining Kent State in the regional field, in order of seed, will be: No. 1 USC, No. 13Texas A&M, No. 24 Florida State, Washington, Alabama, San Diego State, UTEP, Penn State, Michigan, Michigan State, Seattle, Marquette and Bryant. Individuals competing on their own are: Hidetoshi Yoshihara and Cole Madey of UCLA, Tim Widing of San Francisco, Ryan Wallen of Wyoming and Michael Colgate of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Conditions at the tournament are expected to be rough at the start of the week, with chances of precipitation around 70 percent for rounds one and two. Chances of inclement weather sharply fall for Wednesday's round three.
Kent State will enter the tournament with all five players in the lineup nationally ranked, a distinction only the Flashes and USC can claim in this field. Ian Holt leads the pack as the 64th ranked golfer in the country, followed by No. 71 Josh Whalen, No. 106 Gisli Sveinbergsson, No. 119 Bjarki Petursson and No. 179 Chase Johnson. All five golfers in the lineup received All-MAC First team honors, a first in league history.
Together, the group has put together the strongest season in program history. They hold a scoring average of 284.91, the first time a Kent State has averaged under par as a team for the season. The group is one short of the program record for tournament wins, with five, including the 2017 MAC Championship.
