Field Hockey Downed at No. 14 Northwestern

EVANSTON, – The Kent State University field hockey team (2-5) dropped its second match of its Illinois weekend, falling to the No. 14 Northwestern Wildcats (4-3), 2-1, Sunday.
The Golden Flashes jumped out to an early lead on the road against a nationally ranked squad, scoring in the fourth minute of the match. The score came off a corner, the first for either team in the match. Ines Delpech scored for the third time this season, a team-best.
The lead lasted for roughly 15 minutes, when the Northwestern attack began to heat up. The Wildcats scored twice on five shots within a five-minute period. Both goals came on penalty corners, butting the Flashes behind with 46 minutes remaining in the match.
Kent State finished the match with four shots, all of which were on goal. Northwestern finished 13 shots overall and six penalty corners. Kent State freshman goalkeeper Kylie LeBlanc recorded seven saves over 70 minutes Sunday.
The Flashes will begin Mid-American Conference action on Friday at Appalachian State at 2 p.m.
