
Defense Shines in Loss to Falcons

KENT, Ohio – Kent State had several standout defensive performances in posting new season-high totals for digs and blocks Friday night at the M.A.C. Center in a 3-1 loss to Bowling Green (20-25, 25-21, 16-25, 13-25).
The Golden Flashes (2-12, 0-3 MAC) totaled 102 digs, which is tied for the 13th-most by any team in the country in a four-set match this season. It is the most digs Kent State has tallied in four sets since an incredible 122-dig effort against Eastern Michigan in the opening round of the 2014 MAC Tournament. Senior Challen Geraghty led all players with 28 digs. Senior Kelsey Bittinger contributed 19 digs along with a team-high 13 kills for her fourth double-double of the season. Sophomore Claire Tulisiak had 14 digs. Freshman Natalie Tagala recorded her fourth double-double with 11 digs and 30 assists.
Kent State recorded 11 blocks on the night. Sophomore Myla King led the way with six, while senior Heather Younkin was right behind with five. Senior Amber Gerdeman and junior Lexi Mantas added four blocks apiece. The Flashes started strong with nine blocks at the intermission but were only able to record one block in each of the final two sets.
Kent State is back in action on Saturday against Miami with first serve from the M.A.C. Center scheduled for 7 p.m.
