Travale Leads Flashes to 10th Place at Royal Oaks Intercollegiate

CARROLTON, Texas- Freshman Johnny Travale tied for 14^th place to lead the Kent State Golden Flashes men's golf team to a tie for 10^th at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate, which concluded Tuesday at Marido Golf Club (par 70/7,008 yards) in Carrolton, Texas.

Travale fired a 217 to finish in a tie for 14^th at 7-over par. The freshman opened up the 54-hole event with a 72, followed by an even-par score in his second round. His second round was a team-best, highlighted by three birdies after shooting 15 holes for par or less. Travale finished his final round with a 5-over 75 score.

Will Kurtz carded a 223 54-hole total score for a tie for 36^th at 13-over. Kurtz finished his second round with a 2-over par 72 score with three birdies on the day. In the final round, he fired an 8-over par 78 score that closed out his day. Senior Bjarki Petursson finished the tournament tied for 41^st with a 14-over par 224 score. Petursson shot the lowest score for the Flashes in the final round with a 3-over par 73 highlighted by 15 total pars.

Senior Gisli Sveinbergsson, who tied for 66^th, finished the 54-hole tournament at 24-over 234 score. In the second round, Sveinbergsson fired a 4-over 74 score and bettered his final round by a stroke at 3-over 73. Rounding out the lineup was sophomore Josh Gilkison who finished in 70^th at 237. Gilkison closed out the second round with a 79 score, followed by a 78 in the third round.

The Royal Oaks Tournament was the last of the tournaments to be played in the fall for the Flashes. Kent State resumes play on Feb. 25-26 as the Flashes compete in the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette, La.
