
Field Hockey Looks to Mid-American Conference Tournament

KENT, Ohio –The Kent State University field hockey team (7-11, 5-1 MAC) turns its sights to the Mid-American Conference Tournament, competing as the No. 2 seed on Friday, Nov. 2 at 2:30 p.m. in Oxford, Ohio. The Flashes finished the regular season 5-1 in the conference, falling only to the Miami RedHawks, the regular season champions.
Hosted at Miami University, all seven conference teams will compete in the tournament in a single elimination bracket starting on Wednesday, Oct. 31 with No.6 Appalachian State facing No. 7 Central Michigan at 12:00 p.m. The winner of will face No. 3 Longwood on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 1:30 p.m. in Match 3. The Flashes will face the winner of Match 3.
Last Time Out
The Flashes concluded the regular season splitting last weekend with a win over Appalachian State and a loss to Louisville. The Flashes defeated the Mountaineers, 3-1, seeing three different players net goals. Freshman Helena Cambra Soler contributed to all three goals, notching the first goal of the day and recording two assists.
Freshman Luisa Knapp scored her first goal of the season in a 3-1 loss to Louisville.
On the Season
As a team, the Flashes tallied 32 goals on 208 shot attempts in the regular season, drawing 96 penalty corners. The squad was led offensively by sophomore Clara Rodriguez Seto with five goals and seven assists, sophomore Emma Bressler with five goals and two assists, and senior Jessica Apelt with five goals and an assist.
Junior Laila Richter and sophomore Hailie Balachick added four goals apiece, and six additional Flashes scored goals on the season.
The Kent State defense was led by Rodriguez Seto with four defensive saves on the year. Junior goalkeeper Mary Crumlish held steady in the cage, recording two shutouts and racking up 84 saves for a .689 save percentage.
MAC Tournament History
Kent State has won the MAC Tournament three of the last four years, falling short of four-consecutive titles in 2017. The Flashes fell to Miami 2-1 in overtime in the championship game a year ago. Head coach Kathleen Wiler has won five tournament titles in her tenure, the most in program history by a coach, and the Flashes have competed in the MAC Tournament every season since 1988.

The tournament will be played at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Tickets will be sold at the field or over the phone (513-529-4295) for $6 for adults and $2 for youth (14 or under). Admission is free for all MAC students with a MAC ID.
